I have been busy, but I want you to know that I did not miss Memorial Day. My Dad hung our Stars and Stripes and we were thankful our servicemen and women were protecting us. I was allowed to recognize the “Blue and Gold Star” Military Families over the PA system at my school. I said, “We take this time to remember our “Blue and Gold Star” Military Families and thank them for their sacrifice, generosity, and we want them to know that they are a part of our community.” I am trying to have this said across New York State on three holidays: Patriot Day, Veterans Day, and Memorial Day. So far I have met with Westchester County Legislator, James Maisano about this and I have also spoken on the phone with New York State Assemblywoman, Amy Paulin. I even wrote to the New Rochelle City School District Superintendent, Mr. Richard Organisciak, to ask him for his feedback. I am wondering how you feel about this idea?
I was busy with studying for science and social studies tests, writing a long paper about parrots, and building and researching a science project with my friend. I was also practicing for a horse show which was on Sunday, 6/10/13. Even though I was busy, I still made sure to take a moment to remember our “Blue and Gold Star” families. I encourage you to take a minute out of your busy lives to remember our “Blue and Gold Star” families every day.
Your Neighbor,
Jake
